Who we are

WCAN is a platform and community built for and by black women — a place to grow, connect and be seen.

We create spaces where ambition feels at home. Through events, mentorship, resources and partnerships with leading employers, we help our members take the next step in their careers with confidence. Our network now spans over 12,000 women members, and we’re proud to have worked with more than 80 organisations over the last 11 years that share our vision.

At our core, we’re about access — opening doors, building belief and making sure black women can thrive in every room they enter. Our membership holds the brightest and most promising black female talent in the UK.

WCAN began in 2015 as our founder searched for a community that reflected who she was and what she aspired to become. Those first conversations — over dinners and small workshops — became the foundation of something much bigger.

A decade later, that same energy drives us. We’ve grown into a global community supporting Black women at every stage of their journey, from university to leadership. What started as a need has become a movement — one that continues to shape culture, careers and confidence.

The WCAN experience has been an amazing and most rewarding one. One of the most invaluable event for me was the Clifford Chance insight day. I was in the middle of doing my application for the winter vacation scheme and thus this day gave me an opportunity to ask niggling questions, such as the logistics of how they go through applications and what they are looking for in each answers I.e. the competencies they judge each answer on. In addition, I also learnt that the 3 day scheme ended with a training contract interview which spurred on my motivation, ensuring my application was as perfect as possible. Furthermore, attending the event in of itself was an advantage as Clifford Chance always record each contact you have had with the firm and use that as an indication of an applicants interest. As a result, WCAN provided the perfect opportunity for me to interact with the firm as well as getting myself noticed by the graduate recruitment team. The application workshop was detailed, precise and aided my application form. It was overall a great experience that most definitely helped in securing a training contract with the firm.
